Clavamox (amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanate potassium) is a prescription antibiotic for dogs that is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Is refrigeration required for Clavamox for dogs?
No – Clavamox should be stored at room temperature, away from heat and light; it is also important to keep it in a dry place and avoid freezing. Clavamox should be kept in its original container with the tight-fitting-lid.

Clavamox Storage Temperature
Basically, Clavamox contains amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanic acid. So, here I would discuss the amoxicillin trihydrate storage temperature and the liquid amoxicillin stability after reconstitution.
You don’t need to refrigerate amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanic acid preparation – known as Clavamox
Amoxicillin trihydrate (the main ingredient) is highly stable at room temperature below 25 degrees centigrade.
Although, Clavamox does not need to be kept in the refrigerator. Here are some precautions you must follow up:
- Protect it from direct exposure to sunlight, heat, or moisture
- Keep Clavamox out of the reach of children as well
Clavamox Dosage Form
This antibiotic medicine for dogs is available in pork liver-flavored, palatable, chewable tablets to form as well as liquid oral suspension form for canines and felines. It makes it so easy to administer in pets of all age groups.
Clavamox Chewable Tablets Storage Temperature
This oral medicine does not need to be refrigerated. As it contains amoxicillin trihydrate (a penicillin-type antibiotic) and clavulanate potassium (a beta-lactamase inhibitor salt) in four different strengths, 62.5mg, 125mg, 250mg, and 375mg respectively.
They don’t need to store in a refrigerator because they are stable at room temperature (between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius). Protect them from moisture, heat, and sunlight. Store in a dark place.
Clavamox Drops and Oral Suspension Storage Temperature
This antibiotic oral powder needs to be reconstituted in a sterile water (available by the Zoetis pharmaceuticals). After reconstitution, this is good practice to store it in a refrigerated temperature (between 2 to 8 degrees Celsius).
Is Clavamox Oral Suspension still OK – if Not Refrigerated
According to the manufacturer’s instructions, the Clavamox oral suspension should be refrigerated, but if it’s accidentally left at room temperature for a day, it shouldn’t cause any harm.
However, it should be discarded after 10 days. It’s important to monitor the product for any changes in color or consistency, and if any changes are noticed, it should be disposed of immediately.
It is favorable for Clavamox Oral Suspension if you put it in temperatures between 2-8 degrees celsius then it does not lose its taste. Refrigerated temperature means two to eight degrees celsius temperature, not below 2-degree Celsius
Can You Freeze Clavamox Oral Suspension?
A 15ML reconstituted aqueous solution of amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanic acid should be stored at room temperature (15-25 degrees celsius). You may also store it in a refrigerator temperature between 2 to 8 degrees celsius but you can never store it at a temperature below 2 degrees Celcius or a frozen temperature. If the reconstituted oral suspension became frozen, then discard it.
Liquid Clavamox Shelf Life

Reconstituted liqud Clavamox may last 10 to 14 days. Although, amoxicillin trihydrate is not a refrigerated drug. But it is advised to refrigerate reconstituted suspension at 2-8 degrees celsius.
The oral suspension may last up to 14 days after reconstitution. It means you must discard amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanate potassium preparation after fourteen days of reconstitution. This is not advised by the Veterinarians, Doctors, and Pharmacists to use this drug after 14 days of reconstitution in dog, cat, kitten, or puppy, in fact, any canine or feline.
